Other: I am currently a Fisheries and Wildlife Master's student at North Carolina State University working with Dr. Joe Hightower on the mighty and beautiful Roanoke River. We are evaluating the effectiveness and feasibility of using fishwheels and split-beam side-looking hydroacoustics to monitor anadromous fish spawning migrations in southeastern coastal rivers. Species being evaluated include striped bass (aka 'rockfish'), hickory shad, alewives, blueback herring, white perch, American shad, and possibly Atlantic and shortnose sturgeon. My thesis research led me to a career as malacologist and aquatic biologist for the WVDNR. In 1987 I moved to Elkins, WV to begin a career with the USFWS as a fish and wildlife biologist working on stream and wetland issues and habitat restoration.
